“Get out of the mud!” is a phrase often heard in our home.
Self-pity is an ugly thing. When we feel sorry for ourselves, we can begin to wallow in the emotions of it as a pig wallows in mud.
Turning in the slop.
Becoming helpless.
This can be expressed in either anger (“I don’t deserve this!”) or sadness (“woe is me.”)
Self-pity is sin. It’s a trap. By feeling sorry for ourselves, we remove our trust and focus from God and put it on ourselves.
So, next time this happens to you, “Get out of the mud!”
