One way to think about our pursuit of pleasure is a temporary escape from an unsettled, discontented center.
We seek pleasure in so many ways.
Inordinate amounts of entertainment (movies, video games, tv, social media), physical escapes, and chemical escapes (smoking, sugar, food, drugs).
Our pursuits for fulfillment in the things of the world are all in vain. They are empty bubbles. Promising something they cannot deliver.
But listen how beautiful: Those who put their trust in God are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures (Psalms 36:8).
The Lord is able to give something the world only attempts to mimic.
May we not waste our affections on empty bubbles, but instead pursue our designed purpose, delighting ourselves in our Maker, allowing Him to make us abundantly satisfied with His fullness, and drinking from the river of His pleasures.
