Fullers’ Soap

Fulling is an ancient step in cloth making used to cleanse and whiten the cloth. The process involved stretching and pounding and made the cloth thicker and stronger. Oils, dirt, and other impurities were eliminated.

The Lord is described not only as refiner’s fire in Malachi 3:2 KJV, but also as fullers’ soap.

As His presence refines us, He removes impurities and whitens our garments similar to the process of fulling.

This word is used again when Jesus led Peter, James, and John up on a high mountain and was transfigured before them.

When this happened, His garments became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. (Mark 9:3 KJV)

God’s ability to cleanse goes beyond man’s ability. Let us place ourselves in the hands of He who purifies.
