I love to picture the Holy Courtroom often described in Scripture that awaits each one of us. That Great Day we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, before the Holy Judge, to give an account for all we have done in the body.
Revelation 12:10 says we have an accuser who accuses the brethren before the Lord day and night.
But listen how neat! This word “to accuse” is katēgoreō – G2723. It means to make an extra-judicial accusation before a judge.
Extra-judicial is something that has occurred outside of or without the authorization of the judicial system. As such, it might not follow proper legal procedures or carry adequate legal authority. It is not forming a valid part of regular legal proceedings and is delivered without legal authority. It is done in violation of due process of law.
So, yes, we have an accuser, who opposes us before the Judge day and night; BUT the accusations that are brought are extra-judicial.
When we are in Christ, our accuser’s words have no authorization or legal authority. He’s not a valid part of the legal proceedings because Jesus paid it all and said, “It is finished.”
As in Zechariah 3, our filthy garments have been taken away and our iniquity has been caused to pass from us. He has clothed us in rich robes and placed a pure, clean turban on our head.
The Lord rebukes Satan and his extra-judicial accusations.
Our Mediator stands close by and intercedes on our behalf.
