The Trinity

Why would God be three in one? Could one of the many reasons be because of His great, immeasurable love for us, His children?

Though flawed, through my motherly love I get a faint glimpse of God’s love for us. There was a time I felt a love so deep and a need so large that I was torn to my core to be in more than one place at once. With an infant in the hospital, fighting to live, and my other two small children away from me, displaced and confused, my very nature would have split into more parts, given the ability.

Could God’s deep love for His children have desired the same?

Father – Creator, Judge, Holy One, enthroned King. Having such a great love for us and seeing such a deep need, He chose a division in His Being. To come to earth, humbled in the form of an infant, Jesus Christ. To endure all the temptations and struggles that His creation would ever have to face so He could fully sympathize with our weaknesses. Fully know and fully stand in our place. He endured the cross, to be the ultimate sacrifice. To fulfill the demands of the law. To tear the veil. To bridge the gap.

But then, once it was finished, it was time for Him to ascend; raise to life so that through Him we too could live. He was enthroned and sat at the right hand of His Father. To intercede for us and serve as everlasting High Priest.

As to not leave us alone without Himself, out of His great love, He again chose a division in His Being. The Holy Spirit sent to abide in us. To intercede for us. To teach us. To lead us. To empower us.

The Godhead – the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit – all fully God, just divided to serve in different capacities.

God being plural from Genesis doesn’t negate this view because by nature He is without time and space.

From the beginning, He has turned His great love towards us so that we could know Him, worship Him, serve Him, and display His glory for all eternity.

Oh, the great love of God!

I hesitate to share these thoughts because I see the potential of misunderstanding. What I’m not saying:  I don’t aim to wrongly make the nature of our Creator to be all about us, His creation, as though He exists solely to serve us. We exist to serve Him, not the other way around. Creation was birthed for Him, by Him, and through Him to fulfill His purposes.
