It pleases me to see my children genuinely delighted at an opportunity to serve me. So motivated by love, their eyes light up with eagerness. They will often even argue over who gets to be the one to serve.
From my oldest to youngest child, they seem to get a deep purpose fulfilled when they are able to serve me.
Oh, the love of a child!
Perhaps this delight in service is the mark of a true child of God.
One word used for serve in Scripture is G3000 – λατρεύω, and it means to serve, offer gifts, minister to, and worship.
Our goal here on earth is to be before the living God all the days of our lives to SERVE Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness. (Luke 1:74-75)
Our goal for all eternity is to be before His throne, day and night, to SERVE Him as He shelters us with His presence. (Revelation 7:15, 22:3)
Are we genuinely delighted at the opportunity to serve God?
Does it seem to fulfill a deep purpose inside?
Does the thought of serving God for eternity fill us with a sense of eagerness?
If we don’t desire to live our days here on earth in service and worship to God, offering our gifts and ministering to our Maker, what makes us think we will want to do it for all eternity?
